Pirates of the Caribbean

Is so far the most popular Johnny Depp movie stars Johnny as Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain of the Black Pearl.

Sailing his pirate ship, The Black Pearl, follow the adventures of Jack, his many wenches, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner, (eh, not that Will is a wench, mind you). The Adventures are hilarious, the monsters, just as ugly as Hollywood can make them and the blooper real the real prize among Johnny Depp fans, or Jack Sparrow fans for that matter. Because you see there is a big difference. There are fans who love Johnny Depp (me) and fans who love Jack Sparrow (also me) but some tend to love only Jack Sparrow and run around dressed as pirates every chance they get.

The first movie, The Pirates of the Caribbean, the Curse of the Black Pearl is a fabulous movie. But the extra goodies they add to the deluxe edition are just as interesting. They could sell just as many copies of the blooper real as they could the movie but then Hollywood never did know how to get marketing down just right.

As the movie starts we see the Caribbean city of Port Royal, a tiny hamlet with good guys, bad guys and of course the police. Er, rather the Royal British Navy with their silly uniforms, those red coats.

Ok, so we’re mildly amused as we get to know the town and the Govennor and his daughter, Elizabeth Swann, played by Kiera Knighly and her love interest, Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom.

Then the film cuts away across the sea to a pirate astride the yardarm of his ship. We see a closeup and an audible gasp escapes the mouths of all the women in the theater. I swear I heard it. I was there! I said to myself, “oh my, a star is born and they don’t even know what they have yet”. (I was talking to Disney by the way.

Of all three films, the original Pirates of the Caribbean will always be the standard for making women’s hearts flutter and that funny little feeling you get in the pit of your stomach. It’s a darn good feeling!

Yo Ho, Captain Jack Sparrow. You will always have my heart.
