Johnny Depp is winsome as Edward Scissorhands

There was once a boy named Edward Scissorhands...

Wow this misunderstood outcast has to be one of the most cherished of all Hollywood heroes

The original touching Gothic fable is a parable of love and prejudice with a distinct Burton footprint.

His story starts within a stark black and white rundown laboratory on the hilltop above town.

Where a strange gentle young synthetic leather clad lad, "Edward Scissorhands"
played by Johnny Depp is created by his slightly mad but kindly inventor father played by Vincent Price, out his mourning for his first son.

Edwards life is altered completely when his father dies after Halloween pranksters scare him to death, and which leaves him all alone.

But all is not lost and a serendipitous visit from the friendly neighborhood Avon lady, Pegg Bogs, played by Dianne Wiest, leads to a fortuitous and colorful trip to a new wonderland in a pretty little well ordered neighborhood in suburbia. He smiles in wonder and amazement as she drives him through the streets on his way to his new home.

He is reassured, nurtured and encouraged by Pegg Bogs. The family knows little about him but accept him nonetheless and with affection. Edward, not unsure anymore, finds a new purpose in his new environment, cutting hair. His scissorhands are no longer seen as a liability but an asset and with wonder and delight he clips, chops and scissors his way into everyone’s heart.

He's moved by Peg's irksome but sympathetic daughter, Kim (real life lover, Winona Ryder), who is dating Jim (Anthony Michael Hall), the local blockhead.

But as with all Gothic love stories the endings, they never turn out quite, so well.
